Emerging from a mod, the Citizen Abel series is a slightly bizarre one which takes what is effectively a first-person shooter engine and creates a narrative-based experience that is entirely lacking in shooting mechanics (or much else to be honest). This one is a sequel to Gravity Bone, a strangely compelling adventure about the universe's most efficient hit man where the main goal of the game was to complete a series of strange tasks.

Dungeon village building placement chart. This one stands as a prequel but mixes things up a bit in terms of narrative. Here, you are a part of a criminal lineup and must make sense of a fragmented series of events in the wake of a heist gone wrong. You're presented with the situations out of order and must piece them together to figure how it all went pear-shaped. There's little in the way of gameplay here, and you're able to explore largely at will (although the story itself is linear) in search of clues in the environment and waiting for new events to trigger. There's not much in the way of interaction, although it is possible to die, so this is not going to be a game for everyone. However, if you're into unusual experiences and don't mind the lack of any real gameplay elements, then this is a highly compelling game.

It's not entirely successful and teases at something greater but there's no denying that the narrative techniques used here are brave and bold. The off-kilter art style complements the story well, providing a stylish and fascinating experience that is certainly memorable.
